When travelers think about Cabo, they picture beach clubs, luxury resorts, and days spent moving between infinity pools and oceanfront cocktails. Those experiences certainly exist, but Hotel El Ganzo offers something entirely different.

Located in San José del Cabo’s marina district, Hotel El Ganzo feels less like a traditional resort and more like a creative community built around art, music, culture, and meaningful connection. During my recent stay, I discovered a side of Cabo that many visitors never see, one where local artists, musicians, sustainability initiatives, and community programs are woven into the guest experience.

From the moment I arrived, it was clear this wasn’t another interchangeable luxury hotel. The lobby immediately sets the tone. Natural wood ceilings, colorful contemporary artwork, handcrafted furnishings, and eclectic design elements create an atmosphere that feels creative without trying too hard. Of course, a stay in Cabo still calls for relaxation, and Hotel El Ganzo delivers beautifully in that department.

My room showcased floor-to-ceiling windows that brought the outdoors inside. The design continued the property’s artistic aesthetic with clean lines, natural textures, and contemporary touches that felt sophisticated without feeling overly formal. The marina views were particularly impressive in the morning as boats drifted out toward the Sea of Cortez under clear blue skies.

Some accommodations also feature private outdoor areas and jacuzzi terraces, creating an ideal setting for enjoying Cabo’s warm weather and coastal views.

One of the highlights of the property is undoubtedly the rooftop. The rooftop pool appears to spill directly into the marina below, creating one of the most dramatic vantage points in the area. Comfortable loungers, panoramic water views, and attentive service make it easy to spend an entire afternoon there. Guests can also participate in morning yoga sessions on the rooftop, offering a peaceful way to start the day while overlooking the harbor and the surrounding mountains.

Lunch by the pool quickly became one of my favorite moments of the trip. Fresh ceviche arrived bright and citrusy with just enough heat to complement the seafood. Grilled fish tacos featured locally sourced ingredients and vibrant flavors that reflected Baja’s culinary heritage. Paired with a crisp cocktail and uninterrupted marina views, it was exactly the kind of relaxed afternoon that Cabo does so well.

The wellness offerings at Hotel El Ganzo provide another layer to the overall experience. During my stay, my wife and I enjoyed a relaxing couples massage at the spa, a welcome opportunity to unwind after exploring San José del Cabo and the surrounding area.

Beyond traditional treatments, the spa menu includes intuitive massages designed to create a more personalized healing experience, along with facials, body treatments, and access to a hydrotherapy circuit. Guests can also take advantage of morning yoga sessions on the rooftop, adding a mindful start to the day while overlooking the marina. Together, the wellness programs complement the hotel’s creative spirit, encouraging guests to slow down, recharge, and fully embrace the rhythm of Baja.

Later that evening, dinner at El Restaurante showcased another side of the hotel’s personality. The dining room balances sophistication with warmth, while the menu celebrates regional ingredients and contemporary Mexican cuisine.

Fresh seafood plays a starring role, complemented by seasonal produce and thoughtful presentation. As the sun disappeared and the marina lights reflected across the water, the atmosphere transformed into something both intimate and energetic.

One evening coincided with the hotel’s Vinyl Night, where music became as important as the meal itself. Guests gathered to enjoy carefully selected records while sharing food, conversation, and cocktails. It was another reminder that Hotel El Ganzo consistently finds ways to blend hospitality with creativity.

The following night, the energy shifted again during a live performance by the Ganzo Collective. Rather than importing generic entertainment, the hotel embraces musicians and artists who contribute to its ongoing creative culture. The result feels authentic and memorable.

Outside the hotel, I spent an evening exploring San José del Cabo’s Art Walk, one of the destination’s most compelling experiences. Galleries, local artists, and colorful streets create a completely different impression than the Cabo often portrayed in travel advertisements. The artistic spirit that defines Hotel El Ganzo mirrors what can be found throughout the town itself. That may be what surprised me most during this visit.

Hotel El Ganzo offers all the amenities travelers expect from a luxury Cabo escape, including beautiful accommodations, exceptional dining, a rooftop pool, wellness programming, and beach club access. Yet the property’s greatest strength lies in its ability to connect guests with something deeper.

This is a hotel for travelers who appreciate music as much as sunsets. For visitors who enjoy conversations with artists, discovering local culture, and learning how hospitality can positively impact a community. It is proof that Cabo can be more than beaches and nightlife.
